West's Williams Commits to Syracuse

The quarterback/defensive back and basketball star will play for the Orange in 2014.

Rodney Williams will trade purple and white for orange after he graduates from Cherry Hill West next spring.

Williams, a two-way standout for the Lions' football team and a force on the basketball court, gave a verbal commitment to Syracuse University, the rising junior announced via Twitter Friday.

"Thanks for all the kudos—I appreciate it and been putting in work for this," he tweeted. "Now I'm an ACC boy!!"

Williams had hinted earlier in the day about the commitment, tweeting, "That Cuse jersey don't look bad on me," a day after attending a camp in Syracuse.

The Orange offered Williams a scholarship coming out of his workout there, Syracuse.com reported, and told him they'd be interested in having him play safety.

Williams already had scholarship offers on the table from Temple and Buffalo, and expressed his regrets to Temple in a tweet later in the evening, after switching his profile photo to a shot of him in the No. 6 Syracuse jersey beside the university's iconic "S" logo.

His commitment to Syracuse is only verbal at this point; he can't officially sign with the Orange until National Signing Day in February.

In addition to his exploits on the football field, Williams also became one of West's 1,000-point scorers this winter.
