Murder-Suicide in Pennsauken, Police Say

A divorce filing led to a double shooting Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.

A divorce filing turned into a deadly shooting on Maple Avenue in Pennsauken Tuesday afternoon, when a man shot and killed his wife, then turned the gun on himself at her medical practice on the Pennsauken-Merchantville-Cherry Hill border, authorities said.

Christopher Liggio, 58, went to his wife's office in the 7700 block of Maple Avenue, just west of Haddonfield Road, around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, and an argument between him and his wife, Dr. Michelle Liggio, 47, quickly turned fatal, authorities said.

"It appears the shooting happened moments after the dispute began," said the Camden County Prosecutor's Office in a statement.

Pennsauken Police and a SWAT team had been called to the family practice office as the couple began arguing, but arrived too late to intervene, authorities said.

Christopher Liggio killed himself after shooting his wife, who had recently filed for divorce, according to the prosecutor's office.

He fired a total of five shots, NBC10 reported, and police told neighbors to stay away from windows following the initial report.

The Liggios, who are from Mount Laurel, leave behind two children, authorities said.
