Sixers Seek $82M From N.J. to Build Camden Practice Facility

The Sixers are the only NBA team without a dedicated practice facility.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to move their practice facility across the river to Camden, and they're asking the state of New Jersey for $82 million to make it happen.

The Sixers are the only NBA team without a dedicated practice facility.

Sources told The Philadephia Inquirer that the team would like to build along the waterfront next to Campbell's Field, home of the Riversharks.

The Sixers are asking for an $82 million grant under the Grow New Jersey Assistance Program, The Philadelphia Business Journal reported Monday. The grant would be payable over 10 years, it said.

The Sixers filed for the grant on Friday, but the amount they were asking New Jersey for did not become public until Monday.

A meeting of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority to approve the team's move to Camden is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, but that is expected to be a mere formality, the Inquirer said.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has been fighting to keep the Sixers in the Keystone State, but told the Inquirer on Friday: "You got the state of New Jersey literally throwing money at the 76ers."

The Sixers have been renting practice space from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine since 1999.

They would continue to play their games at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
