Former Eagle Gary Cobb Intends to Run for Open Congressional Seat

The Republican will most likely face Democratic Senator Donald Norcross for Rob Andrews' soon-to-be vacant seat.

Former Philadelphia Eagle Garry “G” Cobb will seek the Republican nomination for Rob Andrews’ soon-to-be vacant First Congressional District seat, the Burlington County Times reports.

Cobb, of Cherry Hill, made his intentions known to the Camden County Republican Committee Thursday night, according to the report.

Andrews announced his resignation on Feb. 4. He will join the law firm Dilworth Paxson.

The First Congressional District encompasses Camden, Gloucester and Burlington counties. Andrews represented the district since 1990.

Cobb retired that same year after spending 11 years in the NFL. The former linebacker was an Eagle for three years, and has served as a broadcaster on WIP Sports Radio, CBS 3 and now runs the website gcobb.com.

Cobb’s most likely opponent would be Sen. Donald Norcross, a Democrat who represents the Fifth Legislative District. He's the brother of Democratic powerbroker George Norcross.
