Willingboro Man Charged With Armed Robbery of Cherry Hill Man Answering Craigslist Ad

A Willingboro man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery of a Cherry Hill man who responded to a Craigslist ad offering a new iPhone 5, Cherry Hill Police announced on Tuesday.

Marcell T. Spears, 33, was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and theft. He allegedly stole $200 from the Cherry Hill man who was responding to the ad.

The man provided his home address to Spears, who arrived at the man's home and allegedly held him up at gunpoint. After taking the money, he fled in his vehicle.

Spears was charged with a similar robbery at the Moorestown Mall in which he allegedly robbed a Gibbsboro man at knifepoint on July 1.

The Gibbsboro man was also answering a Craigslist ad for a new iPhone 5. The incidents took place within an hour of each other on the same day.

Bail was set for Spears at $100,000.

Police warn the public when utilizing any online service to buy or sell goods involving in-person transactions that they should always try to meet in a very public location that is well lit.

If possible, bring another adult or be sure to let your family and friends know the time and location of the meeting.

Try to arrive early to see the potential buyer or seller arrive and record their license plate if possible.
