Updated: Camden Breaks Murder Record, 59th Killing Reported Friday

A man is fatally shot in the city's Fairview section.

A fatal shooting in Camden's Fairview section Friday morning set a new record for murders in the city, breaking the old mark of 58 set in 1995.

Charles Nicholson, 44, of Camden, was shot multiple times as he sat in his car at the Crescent Gardens apartment complex on Independence Road just after 11:30 a.m., Camden County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Jason Laughlin said.

By the time police arrived at the scene, Nicholson was already dead.
