Cherry Hill Trick-or-Treating Now Monday

The governor's order pushes back all Halloween trick-or-treating to Nov. 5.

After initially pushing back trick-or-treating to Friday, Cherry Hill officials have now opted to follow the governor's executive order, postponing Halloween activities to Monday, Nov. 5.

Though the township had the option of keeping trick-or-treating Friday, state officials urged towns throughout the state to push things back to Monday.

“I’ve taken this action to minimize additional risks to lives and the public safety as we begin the process of rebuilding and recovering from Hurricane Sandy,” Christie said in a statement. “In too many communities in our state, the damage and losses from this storm are still being sorted out, and dangerous conditions abound even as our emergency management and response officials continue their work.

“As governor, it is my responsibility to use all available resources of the state government to protect against the emergency created by Hurricane Sandy – postponing Halloween celebrations by five days is a commonsense and necessary step to accomplish that.”

Camden County officials declared the entire county would follow suit, given the cleanup still needed following the hurricane.

“There are still hundreds of crews working on the street and the County still remains under an emergency declaration,” Freeholder Ian Leonard said. “Public works crews are working diligently to remove trees and limbs, while the utility companies are restoring power to more homes across the county. Continue to take safety precautions and keep children away from downed objects from Hurricane Sandy.”
