Lighthouse Hospice Pediatric Team Sharing Best Practices with Duke University

Lighthouse Hospice Pediatric Team, under the leadership of Julia Hertz, BSN, RN, Director of Clinical Care Services, is lending its expertise and its end-of-life pediatric experience to Duke University.  Duke is looking for ways to enhance hospice and palliative care to children.  Lighthouse is reaching into its history of providing pediatric end-of-life care to support the knowledge base and practice of programs affiliated with Duke.  The relationship is being initiated with periodic online dialogues describing how our program has developed over time.  We are looking forward to a deepening affiliation and sharing of ideas and content.

Hertz established pediatric care as a service at Lighthouse Hospice in 2009.  Since that time Lighthouse has worked closely with the PACT Team of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in providing services to children and their families.  Currently, in addition to CHOP, Lighthouse Hospice is partnered in the provision care with Cooper Hospital in Camden New Jersey, and AI Dupont Hospital for Children in Wilmington Delaware.

It is the profound life-changing experiences that come from the provision of care at end-of-life that will shape the dialogue and affiliation that Lighthouse will share with Duke.  Caring for dying children and their families takes more than refined skill, and an expanding knowledge of best practices in care, it requires a tender and abiding heart of compassion.  Lighthouse Hospice strives to blend all three under Hertz's direction.
