Purple Heart Recipient to be Honored on Friday

WWII Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Edward Martino of Cherry Hill will be honored 11 a.m. Friday at Cherry Hill Dodge.

WWII Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient Edward Martino of Cherry Hill will be honored 11 a.m. Friday at Cherry Hill Dodge.
 
Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. will join the New Jersey Employer Support of the National Guard and Reserve and the 84th Training Command to honor Martino.

 Cappelli will present Martino with the Camden County Service Medal and Brigadier General Grant will present him with a State Combat Medal.  State Chairman of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Col. Alan Smith (Ret.) USMC will present Martino with a Seven Seals Award.

"The Camden County Military Service Medal was created by the Freeholder Board to honor the men and women who have made Camden County proud by serving their country with honor and valor,” Cappelli said in a press release.  “Edward Martino proudly wore the uniform of our country and is being honored for his dedication to our nation and his undying patriotism.”

 Martino was a proud member of their 309th Combat Engineers.  He was one of the American heroes who battled in snow, sleet and rain to engage the enemies of freedom during the “Battle of the Bulge,” the largest and bloodiest battle fought by the United States in World War II.
