In early October, a group of 5th grade girls approached me with the idea to make and sell rubber band loom bracelets. Calling themselves Team Pink, they decided to make pink and white bracelets in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This group of six, remarkable girls were willing to give up their recess time at school, as well as some of their free time at home, in order to gather and produce these loom bracelets. The bracelets are selling for a bargain at a dollar a piece, and when the staff members at Lilley School caught wind, the orders started rolling in.
These industrious young ladies worked tirelessly to keep up with not only the orders from our school, but local churches and businesses as well. In just three short weeks, Team Pink made and sold nearly 200 pink and white bracelets. With the help of the staff donations from Lilley School’s annual “Lee National Denim Day” fundraiser, Team Pink and the staff were able to donate nearly $500.00 towards the fight against breast cancer.
These five students have truly shown their outstanding character by going above and beyond with this idea and deserve to be recognized as “Shining Star Students”. All of us at Lilley School are proud to call them Wildcats. Way to go, girls!
