Cherry Hill’s annual Music Under the Stars concert series is back this summer, featuring four acts at Barclay Farmstead in July. The free series starts Tuesday, July 9, and runs weekly through the end of the month. All concerts start at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting, and feature up-and-coming bands as opening acts for the featured bands. The lineup this summer: July 9: Larry Stevens Band—a mix of rock, pop and country, featuring music from artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jason Mraz, Jack Johnson, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers and many more. Kid Felix, a six-piece rock band made up of Camden County natives, will open this year’s MMRBQ at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden. The woman under the yellow umbrella isn't just the titular mother on CBS's How I Met Your Mother—she's also a Cherry Hill native. Cristin Milioti, who was previously best known for a Tony-nominated performance on Broadway in Once, is a 2003 Cherry Hill East graduate—and is playing the character referenced for eight years on the show, which finally revealed her identity in the season finale Monday night. After high school, Milioti briefly attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, then headed to various roles on and off-Broadway. Heavy metal bassist Frank Bello, a longtime member of the band Anthrax and one of the icons of the thrash metal scene, is making a stop in Cherry Hill Wednesday at Guitar Center as part of a six-city tour. Bello is scheduled to perform at the store in the Plaza at Cherry Hill, adjacent to the Cherry Hill Mall on Route 38, starting at 7 p.m. Also on the schedule are a Q&A session and a meet-and-greet, all of which are free to the public—with the caveat there's limited space for Bello's appearance. Bello has spent a total of 28 years with the bands in two stints—he briefly left in 2004, but rejoined Anthrax in 2005. Teens from around the Delaware Valley will showcase their talents in visual and performing arts.
More than 300 Greek Orthodox teens will get their chance to show off their music, art and more in the annual Sights and Sounds Festival at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church Saturday. The participants, all in grades 7-12, come from 13 Greek Orthodox parishes in the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan area and have labored for months on their craft. The festival features more than 1,000 sights—artwork, crafts, and photography in more than 24 categories—and 20 hours of sounds—solo, group, vocal, and instrumental musical performances, dances, and theatrical presentations, in both Greek and English. New Jersey writer Pat Pattan, author of When We Were Growing Up, shared nostalgic stories of childhood in the early decades of the 20th century during an interactive chat with seniors gathered at Spring Hills Cherry Hill on Tuesday, March 26. Pattan, a resident of Jackson, filled her book with actual events and situations that evoked memories for the generations who were children before World War 2.
